Role
Richard, Director at Airport Design Consult Ltd, is an independent Consultant and a qualified Architect with over 30 years experience in the aviation sector. Richard has been working with the AiQ Consulting team as an Associate on various projects such as GMR Hyderbad International Airport providing independent airport design, planning advice and due diligence technical advice.
Richard has over 30 years’ experience in the aviation sector and has extensive knowledge and expertise in airport master planning, the planning and design of terminal central processors, piers and satellites, optimization of capacity, processor and floor area calculations, provision of IATA/mandated levels of service and the integration of commercial and operational requirements. His expertise covers project definition, developing the business case, CAPEX/OPEX modelling, retail planning, aviation related commercial development and airport facility buildings including MRO’s, FBO’s, cargo terminals, workshops and training facilities. He has combined working in the Airport Sector with academic work including papers at Loughborough, Cranfield and Westminster Universities and participated in Aviation Conference presentations.
Experience
Recent projects in 2017, 2018 and 2019 include capex review of the current Management Business Plan for the re-development and expansion of the existing terminals/landside/airfield at Venice, Treviso and Verona for SAVE Group, master planning and concept design for Vijayawada Airport, India for the AAI, asset assessment of existing airport and preparation of development plan for privatization of Sofia Airport for the Bulgarian Government, review of Dublin Airport CIP 2020 of 116 projects to the value of €180bn and a capex review of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai for a major shareholding bid.
In 2015 and 2016 the following projects were completed; investment advice covering capacity, expansion and capex for Ferrovial in their bid for Nice and Lyons Airports. Hyderabad: providing capacity assessment of the terminal (12mppa – 20mppa), re-modelling and flow simulation for current and future flight schedules for GMR. Providing technical advice for the new airport and terminal in Crete for AKTOR Group in Athens, advising the Pakistan Prime Minister on development options for Lahore Airport, completion of investment advice (capacity, expansion and capex) for Macquarie Bank for the privatisation of Sendai Airport in Japan. Sizing calculations and concept design for 60,000m2 intermediate terminal at Kuwait Airport, providing specialised cargo handling advice for a new Premia Cargo Terminal at Heathrow for BA, supporting Arup as the Principle Architect for their design bid for 2 new terminals for 40mppa at Chengdu in China, providing technical advice to Renaissance Construction in their bid for Sheremetyevo new Domestic terminal in Moscow and supporting TPS in their bid for additional stands and piers at Glasgow Airport, UK
Other projects included capacity assessment /30-year master plans at Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte Airports in connection with concession bids for Ferrovial. Preparation of the Stansted Airport vendors report outlining capacity/development options on behalf of BAA/Ferrovial/DB and ING.
